Tottenham 3-1 Stoke City

Tottenham Hotspur comfortably beat Stoke City 3-1, thanks to a commanding first half-display.
Spurs welcomed back Jermain Defoe, back after a 12 month spell at Portsmouth, and Carlo Cudicini also made his debut in goal following his transfer from Chelsea.
Spurs were quick out of the blocks, scoring after only 8 minutes through winger Aaron Lennon. The goal seemed to further lift the home team, and spurred on by their vociferous supporters, they scored again on 21 minutes. Luka Modric passed to Roman Pavlyuchenko and he played a fine pass diagonally towards Defoe, who raced forward and beat the keeper inside his near post.
On 25 minutes, the game looked over as a contest as Modric crossed the ball in from the left where Michael Dawson connected to score number three.
Stoke came out fighting in the second half though, and restored some pride when James Beattie pulled one back. However, that proved to be a mere consolation as Spurs held on to get the 3 points.
