Romanian central defender Dorin Goian is expected to be ready for his country’s opening game against beaten world cup 2006 finalist and tournament favorites France on June 09. The center back sustained an ankle injury during training and was forced to watch from the sidelines as Romania beat Montenegro 4-0 in a pre Euro 2008 friendly on Saturday.
Initially it was feared that the central defender would miss the clash with the French but from all indications he has recovered and is expected to feature in the opener which will be played in Zurich. This will come as a relief for the Romanians as they need good results in order to make the knock out stages of the competition.
The Romanians who were pooled in Group C which is known as the “Group of death” as it also has World Champions Italy, tournament favorites France and the Netherlands will need to acquit themselves well against very strong oppositions in order to progress.
