Poll: Who Will Advance From Group A in World Cup 2010

December 26, 2009 by Richard · 4 Comments

This is the only group to contain two former FIFA World Cup winners. They are France in 1998 and Uruguay in 1930 and 1950. The host’s country South Africa will have a tough time with them on the way.

France in the FIFA World Rankings is ranked at seventh. The team was unseeded for the draw. Their qualification zoomed up due to an overtime win against Ireland in Paris.

Mexico in the FIFA World Rankings is ranked at seventeenth. Their most remarkable showing came in July during the Gold Cup final when, after having a 0-0 score against USA at half-time, they won with 5-0. This will be their fifth World Cup finals appearance in succession and their thirteenth time overall. They will face South Africa’s in the opening game.

Uruguay got the last available qualifying place for the 2010 FIFA World Cup by qualifying fifth among South American teams and then beating Costa Rica in a playoff for a place in South Africa.

South Africa, Bafana Bafana is one of the lowest ranked teams in the tournament. But being the host country, they did not need to qualify for the World Cup. This will be the third time that they will take part in the event. Given all the significant data, it will be up to you to decide Who Will Advance from Group A in World Cup 2010.
