FIFA Expecting a Ticket Sell Out

March 28, 2010 by Richard · Leave a Comment

In last weeks tally, there are still around 600,000 tickets that are unsold.  This may be due to different causes like the worldwide recession and also what has been said before about the steep travel cost.  This made FIFA to reduce prices for many tickets in order to enable more South Africans to watch the matches.  But even with this noble gesture on the part of the governing body, it will surely cut the profits that both South Africa and FIFA is hoping to gain from the event.  And it might not also be enough to fill the stadiums.

Another thing is that fact that the players from European club are playing double time or just finished with one and going to the other.  And this explanation is usually given by the teams that did not play well.  The fact is that the players in the world’s most competitive leagues should find some way to conserve and charge their energy in the coming months. Given that many players are involved in UEFA Champions League and domestic tournaments but this is no easy feat.  So chances are, national team coaches will be happy if some clubs like AC Milan or Real Madrid exit early from their competitions.

Agger to AC Milan

36868_newsAC Milan is on the verge of landing the highly rated Liverpool center back Daniel Agger for an amount of €9 million. The deal seemed almost impossible as Rafa denied any transfer rumors regrading Daniel as he wanted him to stay as a replacement for Skrtel. Even after that he said he would like to hold on him after several bids from Real Madrid were also rejected. Agger was also linked to many other clubs but AC Milan proved to better of all those bidders. AC Milan has already sold Kaka to Manchester City and they are using that cash in Premier League. Agger seems the first target.

Nesta is injured and his return is not known yet so this will be a plus for AC Milan as they can also play him in the UEFA Champions League. Agger has signed a four year contract with Milan and he can be guaranteed a regular chance in the side after a long time.

The Euro Cup soccer is one of the prestigious soccer events being participated by many professional leagues in different countries of the world. In line with the tournament, winning team of the UEFA Champions League is awarded with the European Cup trophy. The trophy has been battled for many years by among the best and strongest leagues in the world.

The original trophy was donated by a French sport newspaper company named L’Équipe. In 1967 the Real Madrid team was lucky enough to win and received the trophy as their permanent possession. It was based on the ruling that who ever team wins for 3 consecutive times can keep the trophy forever.

A different design was then made to replace the original trophy. It was designed by Jörg Stadelmann, a Switzerland based jeweler. The trophy is made of silver with a price tag of 10,000 Swiss Francs. The trophy measures 74 centimeters in height and 8 kilograms in weight. The Euro Cup soccer trophy was called La Orejona which means big ears because of the design of the handles that resembles an ear. The term La Orejona has been popularized by Luis Omar Tapia who is an ESPN UCL commentator.

Since it started, the battle for the prestigious trophy has always been attracting many television networks to cover the huge event. All matches are broadcast in the European countries and in many other countries. The popularity of the game attracts over 200 million viewers around the world.

The Euro Cup trophy will continue to be an instrument in fostering the most popular game in the planet.
