Paraguay can be a mean threat to Spain
July 3, 2010 by Richard · Leave a Comment
Vincente del Bosque the Spanish coach has a very firm belief that his team is ready to take on Paraguay today in the World Cup quarters. And if they want to take home the Cup, they can start by winning the quarter finals, which most people think is really easy for the team, especially with class players like Messi and Villa. Although Spain had four previous opportunities to get to the finals and all took place between the years 1934 to 2002.
The resolute Paraguay team is the only one standing in their way this time, and if the European Football team of the year 2007 have to move on to the semi finals then they will have to make sure they give it all they got. Coach Bosque however said, “We know we’re in good shape. It’s been more than 30 days together training as a team and I think these players want to make history.”
It was always the quarter finals where Spain was sent home, and in 2002 Spain lost to South Korea on penalties. That match was long remembered since it was disputed for the referee calls, and then Italy’s Roberto Baggio when on to lift the cup in a 2-1 victory in 1994
Paraguay has a lot of character just like any other South American team and has players who could put their opposition into a lot of pressure. They definitely know their game, their skill and most importantly their trade. You would have noticed that without or with the ball they show a style that is quiet similar to Chile. Andres Inesta the midfielder said, “We’d all like to play nicely, scoring five goals a game and sometimes that happens.” He also went on to say, “There are good moments and difficult moments but what’s important is that we’re in the quarterfinals.”
Paraguay has amazing defense strategies and this is what has bought them so far into the game. And after their perfect shootout against Japan in their previous match they are harboring the dream of lifting the cup.

World Cup 2010: Chile will play against Spain on 25/06 20:30 in Tshwane/Pretoria
An interview with Jorge Valdivia a Chilean international has always been successful. He has won his national league title in 2006 with Colo Colo club and Sao Paulo State Championship in 2008 then moved to Palmeiras the Brazilian giants.
With his star rising, experts expected him to follow the path to South America. But he made a big surprise when he signed up for the United Arab Emirates team Al Ain last August 2008. This 26-year-old midfield was instrumental in bringing the club three domestic trophies, namely the President’s Cup, the Federation Cup, UAE Supercup during his first season there.
Valdivia was also instrumental in Chile’s qualification in to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, and his dreams and hopes for this year’s event were part of the topics discussed in the interview with FIFA. Here is the interview.
Jorge, how significant is being a team captain? Being a captain is important to me. I played captain for Palmeiras and also led my country. It is a great pride but also needs lots of responsibility. Being captain means setting example for the team and for the youth players, a good role model.
Were you delighted being named 2009 Player of the Year in the Emirati league? It is a significant achievement, as it means the work was recognized. That award is a great incentive to achieve more goals and better play.
Do you want to play for a top European club? Of course, but now the priority is to play in the World Cup. My plan is to ensure to make it to the squad for South Africa. If I make it, I will fight to be a starter. I will do all I can to help my team go as far as possible. The outcome of how I play in the World Cup could be a factor in my European move.
Do you think the draw for Chile was a good one on the road to South Africa 2010? The tournament brings the best players of every continent so all the groups are hard. All groups have great teams with ambitions of winning. With regards to Chile’s group, that was the draw. It is impossible to assess if it is good or bad. After the tournament we will know if it is kind to us. The other three teams in the group are all worthy contenders and tough. Watch the World Cup 2010 Chile vs. Spain, it promises to be a tough one.

Five Liverpool players are included in the squad to play match against England. Right-back Arbeloa, Center midfielder Xabi Alonso, left-winger Albert Riera, goal-keeper Pepe Reine and striker Fernando Torres have all been announced to go in the match and four of them are probably start the match.
It was announced by Spanish coach Vicente Del Bosque. Cesc Fabregas the Arsenal captain and midfielder could have played had he been not injured. Barcelona star defender Puyol is also included, other surprising inclusions are Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets.
The match is on 11th February 2008 . Spain is unbeaten in the last 28 matches and Capello is determined to every single game since his arrival. It would nice to see both the top teams of Europe see each other on wednesday. Spain won the Euro Cup 2008 and since then they have been on fire. David Villa is the other striker who will play along Torres who will probably might not be well fit if plays against Portsmouth on Saturday for Liverpool.
