It’s a Germany vs Spain Euro 2008 final Live Online

June 27, 2008 by Kerron · Leave a Comment

At 8:45 in the evening on Sunday June 29, Austria’s capital city Vienna will be the site of much excitement when Germany and Spain battle for European supremacy in the Ernst Happel Stadion.

Spain unlike Germany will enter the evening’s game with a 100% win record from the group stages of the competition through to the knockout stages and will enter the game as favorites to be European champions. With of the youngest soccer stars on the planet in their camp, the Spanish are set to begin the Spanish soccer inquisition in Europe.

Even though the Spanish are featuring in their first final in fifty five years; they are not to be taken slightly, with the likes of Arsenal’s midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas, Barcelona’s midfield duo Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernández, Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, Valencia’s David Villa who incidentally is Euro 2008 leading goal scorer with four goals and Liverpool’s El Nino Fernando Torres. These players represent a generation of youth that have changed the soccer world’s perception of Spain as underachievers.

The Spanish also have Coach Luis Aragones and much like every other coach in the Euros, Aragones has been the subject of scrutiny; from his tactics to his player selection. But Aragones has undoubtedly made a huge difference in the Spanish team’s performance and this is evident in Spain’s appearance in the Euro 2008 final.

The Germans on the other hand have been beaten by Croatia in the group stages and it took a thunderous free kick from the Chelsea midfielder and German captain Michael Ballack against co-host Austria to guarantee progression to the knockout stages of Euro 2008. But the Germans have shown that they deserve to be here with a fantastic performance against favorites Portugal to eliminate them from the Euros.

Germany also possess some bright young stars in Bayern Munich’s triple threat players in Bastian Schweinsteiger whose in scintillating form, the ever aerially present Miroslav Klose and the skillful Polish born Lukas Podolski. Inspirational captain Michael Ballack will be hoping he can display the form he has showed so far in the final to win the elusive major championship.

Ballack missed the 2002 world cup final against Brazil after helping Germany to the final with a goal against Korea in the semis, he was suspended when received a second yellow of the knockout stage. He also lost the Champions league final in 2002 with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and his most recent disappointment coming in the Champions league final 2008 with his current club Chelsea. Is this the long awaited title for the German captain who many think is the player of Euro 2008?

German coach Joachim Low who took on the job following Jürgen Klinsmann’s decision not to renew his contract has the opportunity to stamp his name in German soccer history and will no doubt field his very best team in the final on Sunday.

So with a new European champion being crowned on Sunday, the world of soccer awaits with enthusiasm and anticipation to see who it will be. Italian referee Roberto Rosetti will be in charge of the evening proceedings.

Same result for Russians as Spain Progress to Euro 2008 final Live Online

June 26, 2008 by Kerron · 1 Comment

Euro 2008 favorites Spain today progressed to the final of Euro 2008 following their 3-0 win over Guus Hiddink’s Russia in a repeat of their Group D opening game which saw the Russians being defeated 4-1.

It was a tight first half with both teams making their intentions very clear but neither was able to find the breakthrough. At half time both teams were leveled at 0-0 and it seemed the Russians had improved since the encounter with the Spanish but there was still a lot of soccer to be played.

Play resumed and it came as no surprise that Spain had the better of possession and it was only a matter of time before they took the lead and they did, with just four minutes gone in the second half Spain grabbed the lead through Xavi.

It began to look ominous for the Russians as the Spanish dominated the midfield through Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas, but the Russians never looked like they were about to give and they tried relentlessly to get the equalizer but saw all their efforts nullified by a Spanish defense that seemed to be in training.

Spain kept knocking on the Russian defense and got their second through substitute Güiza after being supplied with a delightful pass from Fabregas. With only nine minutes remaining in the game and the Russians seemingly stunned; Spain scored their third through Silva and it was 3-0 to Spain.

Spain now have a 100% win record at the Euros and maybe tipped as favorites for the final on Sunday in Vienna against world cup 2006 host nation Germany.

Euro 2008 Prematch Analysis: Russia vs Spain Live Online

June 25, 2008 by Kerron · Leave a Comment

European Championships Semi Final 2
Teams: Russia vs Spain
Date and Time: 20:45 CET – Thursday, June 26, 2008
Venue: Ernst Happel, Vienna
Match official:

Both teams met in their opening fixture in the group stages of the competition where the Spanish won 4-1, but a lot has happened since then. It’s the semi finals of Euro 2008 and both Spain and Russia can create history by being in the final on Sunday. But which team will come out victorious?

The Rematch
It must come as a conventional surprise to many that the Russians have made it this far in the Euros, but should it be surprising given the many exploits of the esteemed coach Guus hiddink?

The Russians star player CSKA Moscow forward Andrei Arshavin who did not feature in the opener will be hoping to make a difference in this crucial game.

The Russians will feature the same defense as they did in the first game and will be hoping they learnt from that experience.

The Spanish will be looking for repeat of the opener and will not doubt be cognizant of the Russian star Arshavin. The Spanish will also need to change their approach in midfield as a tighter midfield is expected by the Russians.

The outcome of this match will depend largely on each team’s ability to adapt and scoring opportunities is expected to be at a minimal even with the attacking minded Spanish. the subs could be the differnce in this game.

A Look at the teams

Russia

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, Ivan Saenko and Alexander Anyukov all have slight injuries but should be fit to play. Kolodin and attacking midfielder Dmitry Torbinski are both suspended.

Spain

From all indications Coach Aragonés will name the same team that that faced the Russians in the Spain’s opener with Villa and Torres in front of David Silva, Xavi, Andrés Iniesta and Marcos Senna.

PREDICTION

The Russians have certainly grown since the group stages of the Euros and the Spanish seem to have lost their momentum as seen in their last game which they won on penalties. The Russians though will be familiar with the Spanish forwards and will hope to do a better job at making them. Spain seems to have lost their scoring shoes and must now try to do what they did in the group stages but with the Euros at stake. It will be close and the possibility of penalties looms, nonetheless the Russians should take it.

Spain 1 – 2 Russia
