In the long awaited opening game between European powerhouse France and Romania in the Group C dubbed the “Group of death” of Euro 2008, we were treated to the most uneventful and boring ninety minutes of football one will ever see. Surely it must be said that the French did not live up to expextations and with Zidane and Platini watching, the French lacked urgency and creativity going forward and never looked like scoring at any point in the game.

The center back sustained an ankle injury during training and was forced to watch from the sidelines as Romania beat Montenegro 4-0 in a pre Euro 2008 friendly on Saturday.

It seems the injury to French and Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira was a little bit exaggerated. Coach Raymond Domenech spoke to the FFF website about the injury, saying, “He ran this morning [Thursday] and the advances being made are all we can hope for.
