English Football Not All English Anymore

english-football1In this coming season, almost half of the Premier League teams are owned by foreign funding.  Should they bother?  Is the generated wealth produced by the English teams being siphoned out of the English shores?  These are common questions with a very simple answer.  NO, since the English Football Clubs are not making profit.

At this time the Premier League is ahead of other football league around the world but its earnings lag behind other major US series like NFL or Major Baseball League.  This is the comment of the sports economist of London City University.  Its growth is fast moving and continues to grow in Asia, China in particular.  Then it may become the world’s biggest sporting event.  The investors are thinking that football globalization will mean wider opportunities to make more money.  In the US, some teams are already sporting franchise and they think, they can get more profit from the League this way.

The premiership season is now close to ennding with more then half of the season is over. So far Manchster United is the only team which has proved that it will win the title with its consistent wins every week. Although Liverpool showed utmost display in the first half of the season but has seen a downfall after Christmas. They lie 2 points behind United in the league table. Chelsea has been the most disappointing out of the top four which has fallen behind Aston Villa, while Arsenal continues its poor form this season. Arsenal and Chelsea managed to get only one point from last week while Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton were successful in getting full points.

The match os the weekend was played between Liverpool and Portsmouth. It was terrible to see Kuyt, Alonso and Torres on bench while they trailed 2-1 to the Pompeys but they managed to win when all three of them were brought on pitch later. It was lucky to see them win otherwise Benitez was ready for the worst criticism of his time. Everton showed why they gave tough time to Liverpool and Villa and United were as consistent as they were last few months.
