Flamini makes encouraging Milan debutFollowing AC Milan’s 0-0 draw against Cremonese last evening, summer signing Mathieu Flamini is pleased with his debut. The Fenchman joined the Serie A outfit on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Emirates Stadium.

The 24-year-old has been tipped by many to be the signing of the summer and showed why he is thought of this way with a splendid performance in the heart of the Milan midfield. The underrated Frenchman stated that “Everything went the right way, on the pitch I did not have problems and I’m happy.” “It was just my first game with the Milan shirt and I hope it will be the first in a long line.

“During this week we had a difficult preparation and let’s hope to improve gradually.

“We will now have many games to play and the important thing is to prepare ourselves for the league.” AC Milan has had two disappointing seasons finishing fourth and fifth respectively but with this summer’s signings of Ronaldinho, Gianluca Zambrotta, Marco Borriello and Flamini; many are saying they stand a very good chance of winning the Scudetto.

Arsenal interested in Senna

With the departure of two defensive midfielders, in Mathieu Flamini and Lassana Diarra at the end of last season, Arsenal is in need of a defensive midfielder and is reportedly interested in Euro 2008 championship winner; Spain’s 31-year-old Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna.

The Brazilian born midfielder successfully anchored Spain’s midfield in the recently concluded Euro 2008, amidst all the talent that surrounded him, Senna consistently delivered solid performances to clean up for his attacking midfielders which incidentally includes Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas.

The Brazil-born, Senna has also taken the interest of Juventus and it is reported that Arsenal have entered the race for the former Corinthians player’s services and is willing to pay ₤6million for his services.

Worrying Signs for French: Vieira could be out!

With only days to go before the opening game in Euro 2008 French captain and Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira suffered a thigh muscle strain in training ahead of their warn up game against Paraguay that might rule him out of Euro 2008.

The French captain who has had an injury filled season for Inter Milan came off injury in the latter part of the season and showed qualities that suggested he was approaching his best. The injury to Vieira has caused Coach Raymond Domenech to call new AC Milan Signee Mathieu Flamini as a replacement for Vieira.

The 31 year old Vieira was expected to be an integral player for the French in Euro 2008 with his guile, tenacity and leadership in the midfield and reports has indicated that Vieira is not yet responding to treatment. Coach Domenech is worried as Les Bleus would need the experience of Vieira in midfield.
