Carling Cup Schedule Police Security Fear

September 6, 2009 by Richard · Leave a Comment

carlingcupThe center of fear over game scheduling of the matches in Carling Cup third round matches were Manchester United and Manchester City.  United is scheduled to play September 23 at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers. That same night Manchester City will play host to Fulham in the competition.  This is only three nights after the Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

As a safety precaution the Greater Manchester Police are would like the games to be played on different days since the emotions are still up and high.  An offer from City was given to play their tie on Thursday if they do not face West Ham United until Monday on the Baclays Premier League.  But the suggestion was rejected by Fulham because the team will only have less than two days of preparation for their game against Arsenal at Craven Cottage.  Police officials were glad the teams played at home on the same night last December.  It was United against Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup quarter-finals and City versus Paris Saint-Germain in the Uefa Cup but it was considered to be a higher-risk situation.

Is the Premier League on the bag for Manchester City?

August 4, 2009 by Richard · Leave a Comment

manchesterManchester City, the team with bottomless financer from Abu Dhabi with its apparently bottomless pockets, have used up the entire summer scouting for the best players that money can buy.  This squad is really the team to beat for the title.  Considerably, Mark Hughes the team manager, now has the tested players in the Premier League.  The other managers seeing their line up would really have envy with this arsenal in his hand.  By now, Manchester City has the strongest squad contending for the Premier League.

Now, the question is, can they really win the league?  Are the new players going to bring home the bacon?  Can they really challenge the Champions of the League.  The other teams have also tried it before, some made it and some failed.  It took them quite some time to get their works together before they actually won the Champions League.  They have good chances like anybody else in winning the championships.

Liverpool draws with Manchester City

craig_bellamy_25760tLiverpool needed to win this match to keep abreast of Manchester United in the English Premier League. Liverpool set the tone of the match with a strong attacking style of play but their chances were effectively repulsed by City.
Come the second half saw Liverpool’s hopes cut down at the knees by the masterful play by Robinho who delivered a great pass to Craig Bellamy who with a quick turn in the penalty area and drove the ball into the goal of Liverpool. Though the shot was deflected, the ball went into the far corner of the net past Liverpool keeper Reina. The draw was saved in the 78th minute when Dirk Kuyt shot the ball at close range from a Benayoun cross from the left side. The Liverpool attack went full swing but time had caught up with them as they had failed to score on their chances.
There is a great effect to this draw, as Liverpool is left to eat the dust of Manchester United and bitter rival Manchester City practically gift wrapping the Premiere League championship to their cross town foes.

Kaka Vetoes Move to Manchester City

February 22, 2009 by Richard · Leave a Comment

The real news behind the failed transfer of the 2007 FIFA World Footballer of the Year Kaka is now coming to light. AC Milan had already agreed to sell their prized Brazilian to Manchester City to the tune of $145 million.

Previous bids for the ace striker had been refused by the club side until AC Milan’s big boss Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berloscuni allowed the English Premier League club to discuss the prospect of transferring Kaka. The most probable reason for the sudden change of heart was the sheer amount of the deal which had both Berloscuni and the AC Milan management found tempting enough to deal the player. But the historic deal would not come into fruition with a simple message from the prime minister that Kaka was staying and it is not about the money.

In retrospect, it would’ve been a win-win situation for AC Milan and Kaka, with the huge pay windfall to be received by Kaka and the financial flexibility for Milan, there would be no arguing as to the numbers for the deal to push through. But the final discussions received by Kaka’s camp became lukewarm when the response made by the Manchester City representative would be emailed the next day, which prompted the player’s manager and father to get up and leave. This annoyed the Manchester City representative since he had thought that the previous discussions had already sealed the deal. This chapter then has been called the “great refusal”.
