McCarthy Fumes Over Red Card of Liverpool

December 29, 2009 by Richard · Leave a Comment

Mick McCarthy boss of the Wolves was a frustrated man after his team lost 2-0 at Liverpool following a mix-up by the referee over the red card for defender Stephen Ward.  Andre Marriner the West Midlands official at the start booked Christophe Berra the wrong player.  And he finally realized that the second yellow card should have been given to Ward.  And a red card, for a foul on Lucas Leiva a few minutes after he was cautioned for pulling Yossi Benayoun’s shirt.

The event sparked an discussion on the touchline between McCarthy and Rafael Benitez Liverpool boss.  McCarthy mockingly applauded as the officials finally made the right decision to dismiss Ward.  That was the break Liverpool needed for Benayoun and Gerrard to produce the points to secure a win for the intimidated Reds.  But later McCarthy questioned the role of Phil Dowd, a fourth official in the commotion and suggested he had told Marriner about his error.

Benitez Wants To Build On Wolves Win

Rafael Benitez Liverpool manager told his players that their win over the Wolves will have no bearing unless they defeat Aston Villa, their fourth-placed Premier League rival.  The match on Wednesday at Villa Park sees the Reds, five points off a top four spot securing a Champions League place next season.  They are looking to build on a run of two wins in their last three outings.  While the ’Big Four’ of champions Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool were considered before to be exclusive, the coming out of Manchester City, Villa and Tottenham this season has given a new meaning at the top of the table.

But Benitez was unashamed for saying that Liverpool who just won a close match against the Wolves 2-0, will definitely land in the top four this term.  After winning over the Wolves, we now have more confidence and it will serve as an inspiration for the whole team.

Fair Game For Liverpool

December 26, 2009 by Richard · Leave a Comment

Liverpool gives the impression of fair game for any team in the Premier League. After their 2-0 loss at Portsmouth on Saturday illustrated while Arsenal, for all their flair, can be open to the elements away from home, as seen in their defeat last month at Sunderland.  Liverpool’s depression has given a good hope to other clubs wanting to enter into the top four, including Aston Villa, in fourth place, Tottenham Hotspur in fifth and the very rich Manchester City, who removed Mark Hughes as manager even only being just a few points behind in sixth.

They are all trying to get into the top four and it’s everybody’s guess, one or two might be able to penetrate.  Harry Redknapp Tottenham manager said after a 2-0 victory at Blackburn Rovers that puts them only four points behind United.  Everything is possible.  Villa is looking very strong, the teams are playing well, Manchester City has got a good team and Fulham are in great shape.
