Arsenal hosted the game versus Aston Villa on Sunday, December 27, 2009. With these teams both in the top four. It gave the chance for Villa to show what they are really made of and fight for a Champions League spot but it would be quite difficult to play at the Emirates Stadium. Alternatively, Arsenal was looking for ways to keep their title hopes alive and needed to win for them to keep up with Man U and Chelsea.
Cesc Fabregas the Arsenal captain came off to inspire the Gunners to a 3-0 win against Aston Villa which drag them back into the title race of the Barclays Premier League. The Spaniard, who has not played for a while due to a hamstring problem, scored a superb free-kick on 65 minutes then converted another score to breakaway before he was substituted as a precaution. Abou Diaby scored another in stop time at Emirates Stadium, curling in a from the edge of the area after a run.

Aston Villa is in cloud nine after a good night and getting third place in a German sausage competition. But chances are, they could be due a big loss soon. As a matter of fact, it may be sooner than they think. They may be laying it all down on the line and going all out. There is a big possibility that Arsenal to win today and win with all their might. There is a moment when a team wipes out a rival and it is high time that Arsenal could do that to Villa.
With out being prejudice to Aston Villa, they are a good team who have high ranking in the league table and they so deserve it too. They arrived into the Emirates with great confidence which is correct. After all, they have won against Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool in this crusade and have a great feel that they can finish the Grand Slam by winning against us.

The Goodison Park was packed to the rafters to see the match between Everton and Aston Villa. The frenzy was fever pitch from the opening whistle as the tie between the two to determine who moves forth in the standings.
Everton drew first blood in the 4th minute as Jack Rodwell created a chance from a failed goal line clearance to slot the ball into the back of the net. In the 8th minute Villa equalised when Gabriel Agbonlahor was taken down by Tony Hibbert in the box. Referee Martin Atkinson motioned to the spot and the kick was taken by Milner. Everton keeper figured right but was unable to thwart the shot for the tie.
At the 24th minute, it was Everton’s turn to take the spot as Steve Sidwell’s challenge on Victor Anichebe was ruled as rough play. Aston Villa who is in a top form this season and never looks like losing a match or heading for a draw was kept off the mark by Wigan Athletic who have showed some wonderful performances in the last few games. On Wednesday, they surprised Liverpool with a late penalty successfully converted by their new transfer Mido from Middlesbrough.
They didn’t manage to score for themselves but they did frustrate Villa who are continuously looking for goals throughout the game. It was wonderful display of defense especially. For Villa it would be not good as they lost the opportunity to increase the gap against Arsenal but they still have a 5 point lead which is enormous.
Aston Villa lie on 4th spot in the league and they can move on to get the second if they play like this and liverpool and chelsea drop points every week. They are favorites to qualify for the champions league next year.

Aston Villa beat Portsmouth thanks to a goal on debut from Emile Heskey to move into 3rd place in the Premier League.
Heskey scored after a flick-on from Gabriel Agbonlahor from Brad Freidel’s long clearance on 21 minutes to give Villa a fourth consecutive win. Portsmouth on the other hand, are winl-ess in 7, and have won only 2 out of 14 games under manager Tony Adams.
Villa came into the game in fine form, and although they were never truly in command, they did enough to see off Portsmouth, who were spurred on by a boisterous home crowd. The home side created a few chances, as new signings Jermain Pennant and Hayden Mullins combined well, but Peter Crouch was guilty of a glaring miss from inside the box and Pompey clearly missed the pace and finishing prowess of Jermain Defoe, who was sold off to Spurs last week.
In the second half, Portsouth suffered another setback when Nadir Belhadj was sent off after a second booking.Villa held on for another win, and the dream of Champions League football next season is looking more and more possible.
