Portsmouth vs Liverpool
December 21, 2009 by Richard
A head to head match between two of the troubled teams of the Premier League’s will play in the first match of the weekend. It is Liverpool taking a trip down to cellar dweller Portsmouth. The Hampshire fell to Chelsea in midweek. But it was a much better showing as Avram Grant watched his old charge Frank Lampard concludes the match with a second-half penalty.
Yet Pompey remained steady with only 11 points to their name, so they should get something when Rafael Benitez’s Reds come to town. The Anfield giants desperately need a win on Wednesday, triumphing 2-1 over Wigan Athletic in spite of failing to take full gain of their many goal-scoring chances. But Liverpool is still a long shot from where they hope to be at this point of the season. But still the Champions League qualification is a must for the 18-time English champions, and if they are to achieve that goal they should win against the cellar dwellers.
