June 4, 2008

After a four month absence from football due to injury, Real Madrid and German centre back Christophe Metzelder has hit back at those criticising his poor form by vowing to become a “giant” at the forthcoming Euro 2008 finals, is Metzelder ready for competitive football even after his defensive error that caused Germany to concede a goal against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday, which saw late goals from Oliver Neuville and Michael Ballack which were enough see Germany to a 2-1 win.

Germany who the host of the 2006 World Cup were eliminated in the semi-finals by Italy who went on to win the World Cup, Germany will be looking to do one better by making the final and their ability to defend will play a very pivotal role. Metzelder is expected to partner Werder Bremen’s Per Mertesacker in the centre of the defense for the Germans who will open their account on June 08 against Poland.
