Eriksson still at Team Mexico helm

February 15, 2009 by Richard

Sven-Goran Eriksson is again at the center of a swirling controversy over his management. But this time, Mexican Football Federation officials that they are still behind the mercurial Swede. This despite calls for Eriksson’s sacking after the embarrassing loss to the United Stated in the World Cup Qualifying match opener between the nations.

FMF President Justino Compean reiterated the federation’s support of the beleaguered manager and he assured the press and his country that Mexico would be in the World Cup at South Africa in 2010. There is great speculation that Eriksson would return to the Premiere League to fill the manager’s role in Portsmouth but with this declaration, he is now in a must win situation against the Costa Rican match on March 28. The federation hopes that the team would win convincingly against the Los Ticos under Eriksson’s management.

After this home match against Costa Rica, the El Tri will go on the road to try to salvage its World Cup aspirations. He again stated that changes at the time would be detrimental as it is only one game and with the team now motivated to realize its potential, expect a better team in the next few matches.
