October 28, 2008

Soccer officials of England does not want any more proposed games to be held in Madrid due to racial discrimination that was experienced by their team the last time the participated in the game with Spain.

Due to the incident, Spain was ordered to pay the fine of $75,000. Players including Shaun Wright Phillips, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Jermain Defoe and Jermaine Jenas had been directly faced racial discrimination and mocked by the crowd during the play which was held at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in November 2004.

Similar incident happened during 2006 when Luis Aragones, former coach of Spain had made discriminating remarks to Thierry Henry of France. The incident caused coach Aragones to pay the fine.

Racial discrimination among soccer players has been always a problem of soccer officials. This has led the formulation of certain rules and regulations to abolish these racial acts.
