Diaby to replace Flamini
July 28, 2008
With the departure of Flamini, Diarra, Gilberto in the last few months has left a void in Arsenal’s midfield and Frenchman Abou Diaby believes he can fill the vacancy. Since his arrival in January of 2006, Diaby has looked promising and many have tipped the midfielder of Ivorian descent to replace Patrick Vieira.
After suffering a broken and dislocated ankle; Diaby has not looked much like himself and for much of last season Arsenal fans have become used to seeing him play on the left or right wing. Since the summer Arsenal have lost 3 of their defensive midfielders and now Diaby thinks he has a great chance of playing in the central midfield position.
Diaby stated that “I prefer to play central than left or right, there is a possibility for me to play central and we will see after.” He also stated that “I prefer to play as a central midfielder and now I need to work and do everything good to play here and do my job well. I think that we have got a similar game because Fabregas likes to go forward and I like to go forward because I am an offensive player as well and we need to find a compensation – one goes, one stays.”
