Cesc Fabregas happy being a substitute

June 17, 2008

The twenty one year old Arsenal midfield playmaker said he’s happy with coming off the bench for Spain. The attacking midfielder has not played a full game for Spain in Euro 2008, but has made appearances as a substitute in which he assisted and scored a goal.

The Arsenal midfielder stated “Of course I want to start, that’s why I play football,” he said. “But I will respect the decision of the boss”. With Barcelona’s duo of Xavi and Andres Iniesta playing in the same position, Coach Aragones has decided not to start the three playmakers on the field at the same time as it will affect the team chemistry.

He also stated that “Whether you enter a game and the team is leading, or you come on when the side is behind, you psyche yourself up to make an impact”. Fabregas is expected to start in Spain’s final group game against the defending champions Greece who have already started packing the suitcases.
Spain has already qualified for the quarter final and will possibly feature most of the substitutes in their game tomorrow.
