Sir Alex Ferguson Manchester United boss believes the memory of losing last year’s Champions League final will be a motivation for his players than winning the trophy in 2008. Ferguson said that United are aiming to become only the seventh team to reach three European Cup finals on the trot. This was achieved by Juventus in the mid-1990s. AC Milan who knocked Ferguson out of the Champions League in the 2005 last-16 and 2007 semi-finals, stand in United’s way with the emotional come back of David Beckham to the club he left for Real Madrid in 2003.
The loss to Barcelona in the 2009 final in Rome is still fresh in Ferguson’s mind and he says that the bitter memories of the loss will act as a motivation for his squad to win this year. The win was great in Moscow but losing in Rome became better for the team, Ferguson said. That you realize what a big occasion is if you are not part of the celebration.

Triple Bypass for Newcastle Manager

Joe Kinnear has been scheduled to go under the knife for triple bypass surgery. With this heart surgery, the Newcastle United would be sidelined from his duties for the next two months. He complained earlier of hypertension prior to the Newcastle’s triumph over West Bromwich Albion with a score of three goals to two. Kinnear was rushed to the hospital before kick-off.
In 1999, he had suffered a minor heart attack as he was managing club side Wimbledon. Since then he has been plagued with poor health, but tried to return in his management role with Luton and Nottingham Forest. Since then he has been on hiatus for four years. Handling the mentorship role for the Premier Club in his absence would be the team of Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood.
He took on the Newcastle United mentorship role after the abrupt resignation of Kevin Keegan in September 2008. His job was formalized with a contract effective to the end of the year, and since then an offer for two year stint has been tabled. It seems that he is delaying signing on until he is assured that Newcastle remains in the Premiere League.
