The Toronto FC Soccer Team lost to FC Dallas 1-0 after they took on the Texan outfit on 20 July at the BMO Field in Toronto following an 11-day break. Their losing streak so far this season keeps them stagnant at eighth place in the Eastern Conference. This is despite the fact that TFC (3-10-9) recently engaged in a number of changes hoping to add momentum to their flagging performance. In their Wednesday’s lineup they had two new additions Danny Koevermans and Torsten Frings and imports Andy Iro, Eddy Viator and Ryan Johnson.
Five of the seven new players were featured in the match with Dallas but failed to move the TFC’s game up a notch as the management had hoped. Trailing behind other teams by 19 goals they remain outscored 11-2 in their past five matches. FC Dallas have scored their first victory so far and have the fourth most points in the MLS and third best points per match. Dallas midfielder Brek Shea’s long distance shot from about 20 yards cruised into the upper corner past TFC goal keeper Stefan Frei in the 48th minute. With his ninth goal in the season Shea is now in the same category as Thierry Henry and Landon Donovan who have scored 10 goals each so far in the MLS.
Torsten Frings, a former German international imported from Columbus was the only highlight for the TFC who praised the strong showing and solid skills he displayed on the pitch against Dallas. TFC Manager Aron Winter is hopeful that Frings will bring back the game on 23 July when the TFC face Kansas Sporting City at the Live Strong Sporting Park on 23 July 2011 at 8.30 pm. The match will be aired on GOL TV Canada.
