Madrid set presentation date for Ronaldo

Reports out of Portugal have indicated that Real Madrid have set a presentation date for Portuguese winger and Manchester United’s sensation Cristiano Ronaldo to the soccer world. It’s been quite an eventful summer and the soap opera transfer saga surrounding the winger is set to come to an end some time this week.

With Ronaldo expected to confront Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United this week on matters regarding his future, the questions on everybody’s lips remains to be; Can Sir Alex convince his superstar to stay at Old Trafford?, Can Ronaldo persuade his manager to allow him to go?. Needless to say Real Madrid who now seems certain of the Portuguese’s signature have set August 15 as the date they will present the wing wizard.

It is believed that Real Madrid have table a €75 million for Ronaldo, however the final bid for the player is expected to be somewhere close to €85 million, most of which will come from the sale of Robinho to Chelsea once the club is assured the signature of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Look out for the most anticipated player presentation in history.

Tottenham prepares €40m for David Villa

With Valencia’s financial situation; the club would be advised to off load their Euro 2008 leading goalscorer David Villa or David Silva to alleviate some of their financial burden but the club has opted to keep their stars despite of numerous offers put forward from clubs in Europe. The latest addition is Barclay’s Tottenham Hotspurs, who are preparing a €40m for David Villa.

According to reports in England, Tottenham are set to reach an amicable agreement with Manchester United for Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov for what is speculated to be a British transfer record. However, in Spain Villa’s agent; José Luis Tamargo has been negotiating with Valencia since the 26-year-old returned from an extended holiday for the striker to get an improve contract and will hope that the club will announce that the player has signed a new contract in a few days.

Even though the short lived Valencia regime stated their intentions not to sell the striker; the new regime looks set to divorce the player in an attempt to rid the club of some of their financial burden and with Robbie Keane’s departure and the seemingly emminent departure of Berbatov, Tottenham could see Villa’s signature in the next few days.

Adebayor to sign new deal with Gunners

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, has ended speculation linking him with a move away from the Emirates by publicly announcing his intentions to sign a new deal with the North London club. At the end of a season in which the striker scored 30 goals; Adebayor’s services were being sought after by AC Milan and Barcelona but his move was crippled by Arsenal’s asking price.

The striker from Togo stated that “I can tell everyone that I will sign a contract. I feel good here, and at the moment my heart is with Arsenal.” Adebayor also stated that “I have three years left on my contract and we’re adding two or three years more, so I’m very happy being part of this family.” This brings an end to the ongoing speculations that the striker will be leaving the Emirates Stadium.

Adebayor will feature for Arsenal this weekend in the Emirates cup which includes Hamburg and Real Madrid.

Real Madrid signs Van Der Vaart

Real Madrid will unveil new signing Rafael Van Der Vaart next week according to reports, this after the club reached an amicable agreement with the player. Van der Vaart will sign for Real for €9m with another €2m going to Hamburg based on appearances and what he achieves with the La Liga champions. Van Der Vaart’s contract with Hamburg was set to expire in 2010, but it is believed he will sign for Los Blancos over the weekend when Real meet the German’s in the Emirates Cup.

Real Madrid’s president Ramon Calderon; whose primary pursuit was Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo seems to have gotten impatient with the Manchester United star and looks to have given up on his relentless pursuit of the midfielder. Much to Ronaldo’s dismay, who earlier this week stated that he would be traveling to England next week to inform Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United that he is leaving Old Trafford for the Santiago bernabeu.

What will happen now? Calderon is said to be traveling to England to seal the deal for Dutchman Rafael Van Der Vaart with Hamburg officials. Cristiano Ronaldo may still be playing at Old Trafford after all.

Cristiano Ronaldo joins Real Madrid next week

After months of speculation and rumors; Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo has put an end to the ongoing transfer saga by stating that he will be joining Real Madrid and will travel to England to notify Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson next week.

Real Madrid’s President, Ramon Calderon has been knocking on the door for the man who scored 42 goals in all competitions last season for months and even offered Manchester United a record €100 million for the winger but Manchester United indicated that the player was not for sale. With Ronaldo stating is intentions Manchester United has no choice but to sell him, however the question remains will Sir Alex Ferguson retire as Manager of Manchester United as he has threatened to do?

Ronaldo is currently in Portugal recovering from an ankle surgery and stated in an interview that “Everything is fine. Next week I will return to England and tell them [Manchester United] that my only desire is to play for Real Madrid and that I will not negotiate.” With Robinho signing a new contract with Real Madrid; what will happen now?

Shevchenko returns to Milan

Chelsea striker Ukrainian Andrei Shevchenko looks set to make a return to the San Siro; reports indicate that the former AC Milan player is parting ways with Chelsea and may arrive in Milan in the next few days.

AC Milan have found themselves in a very uncomfortable situation; a situation which may cost them the Scudetto. Milan find themselves in desperate need of a striker; a proven striker. With AC Milan’s suffering injury; Carlo Ancelotti will certainly welcome the man who scored 127 goals in 208 appearances for the club. Anchelotti stated that “If I see Shevchenko in Moscow I will say hello to him. The player will not go to any other Italian club apart from Milan.”

Having looked a shadow of himself since arriving at Stamford Bridge; Shevchenko has always indicated that he wishes to return to Milan at some stage of his career and what a time to do so. Milan officials are expected to talk with Shevchenko at a tournament in Russia which Chelsea and Milan will participate in, which could see the Ukrainian making his return as early as next week.

Diaby to replace Flamini

With the departure of Flamini, Diarra, Gilberto in the last few months has left a void in Arsenal’s midfield and Frenchman Abou Diaby believes he can fill the vacancy. Since his arrival in January of 2006, Diaby has looked promising and many have tipped the midfielder of Ivorian descent to replace Patrick Vieira.

After suffering a broken and dislocated ankle; Diaby has not looked much like himself and for much of last season Arsenal fans have become used to seeing him play on the left or right wing. Since the summer Arsenal have lost 3 of their defensive midfielders and now Diaby thinks he has a great chance of playing in the central midfield position.

Diaby stated that “I prefer to play central than left or right, there is a possibility for me to play central and we will see after.” He also stated that “I prefer to play as a central midfielder and now I need to work and do everything good to play here and do my job well. I think that we have got a similar game because Fabregas likes to go forward and I like to go forward because I am an offensive player as well and we need to find a compensation – one goes, one stays.”

Ronaldinho inspires Brazil’s win

Former Barcelona midfielder and new AC Milan signing Ronaldinho inspired Brazil to a 3-0 win over Singapore as Brazil prepares for the Beijing Olympics. The ever smiling midfielder scored and made an assist as the former world champions cruised to a comfortable win.

Playing the entire 90 minutes, Ronaldinho showed glimpses of his brilliance by delivering a delightful back heel for Werder Bremen’s Diego to slot home on twenty minutes to make it 1-0. It was Ronaldinho who made it 2-0 when he scored from close range.

Over the last few months doubts have been circulating in the world of soccer concerning the Brazilians future in the game; many thought he could be at the twilight of his career but could this be the return of the king?

Keane completes Liverpool move today

The English press reports that Tottenham’s Robbie Keane is heading to Liverpool today to undergo a medical ahead of completing a £20million move to Anfield. Tottenham Hotspurs agreed to sell the Irish captain before the weekend, and provisions are now being made today for the transfer to be completed.

Keane joins Liverpool; his childhood team for £80,000 a week and is expected to make his debut with the club on Wednesday against Villarreal. The 28-year-old now becomes Rafa Beintez’s sixth summer signing, having already acquired in his ranks the likes Diego Cavalieri, Andrea Dossena, Phillip Degan, Emmanuel Mendy and David Ngog.

Madrid considers a €40m bid for Villa

La Liga champions Real Madrid are currently considering a mega bid for Valencia and Spanish striker David Villa, however in order for the club to consider selling the player; the offer must be in the region of €40m. Valencia looked set to keep hold of their of their Euro 2008 winning pair in David Villa and David Silva and made assurances to both players for new contracts.

However, Valencia is said to be experiencing a serious financial crisis and must sell one of their big names in order to ease their financial burden. Valencia’s majority shareholder Juan Soler has stated that “We cannot assure people that we will not have to sell one of our stars.”

Los Merengues’ pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo is seeing president Ramón Calderón lose supporters and now he is eager to sign a high profile player to win back their support and Villa could be the answer.
