Van Bommel captains Bayern

Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel is now assured a place in Bayern Munich’s history by being awarded the captaincy of the club, this following the retirement of German international Oliver Kahn. Van Bommel is the first non German to be entrusted with the captaincy in 108 years.
Podolski gets hat-trick

A hat-trick from Lukas Podolski helped fire Bayern Munich to a 4-2 win in their latest pre-season friendly against Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds. With the Italian Luca Toni out injured; the Polish born Germany international was given a chance by trainer Jürgen Klinsmann and made it clear that he is one for the future.

Bayern Munich’s trainer Jürgen Klinsmann has reiterated that German international Polish born striker Lukas Podolski is not for sale and that the player will be staying at the club. The 23 year old German international has been continuously linked with a move away from the Bavarian club this summer and was rumored to be going back to his former club Cologne.

Podolski who has had a fabulous Euro 2008 tournament with the Germans which culminated with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Spain in the final hopes to improve his status as a player at the club level and hopes to sit down with Bayern Munich’s Jurgen Klinsmann to discuss his future at the club.
