Blackburn Rovers vs. Manchester City Preview |EPL| Sat, 1 Oct, 2011

September 30, 2011 by · Comments Off

Manchester City are having a bit of a troubled period at the moment. The Carlos Tevez saga has been a matter of concern for the team which has resulted in a run of poor form for Manchester City in the Champions League. Their Premier League form however, is quite decent. They are unbeaten in the League and have only dropped 2 points in their first six matches of the campaign. Blackburn had secured a morale boosting win against Arsenal but were pecked back again by the defeat away to Newcastle last week. Blackburn manager Steve Keane is under pressure to produce result or he will get the sack.

Manchester City are level on points with Manchester United in the League table with only goal difference separating the two sides. City would like to have another win to keep United honest at the top. Blackburn are in desperate need of points but a win against Manchester City is close to impossible for them. City might not have been prolific in the Champions League but they are quite sublime in the League and have players that can tore apart defences with ease.

To add to the woes of the Blackburn Manger Steve Keane, is the rising number of injuries he has to contend with. Defenders Scott Dann, Gael Givet and Michel Salgado are all out with injury and might miss the game against City. Manchester City on the other hand have no major injury concerns for the game.

Manchester City are the favourites for the game and should win the game easily considering the leaky defence of Blackburn that has shipped in 13 goals so far in the season.

Fulham vs. Manchester City Review |EPL| Sun, 18 Sep, 2011

September 20, 2011 by · Comments Off

Final Score:  Fulham 2-2 Manchester City

Goal scorers:  Fulham (Zamora, 55; Murphy, 75) Man City (Aguero, 18, 46)

Bookings:

Fulham: Sidwell

Man City: Barry

Man of the Match: Sergio Aguero

Manchester City were held to a draw by a determined Fulham side that refused to accept defeat after going two goals down. Sergio Aguero’s brace was not enough to give Manchester all three points at Craven Cottage. Fulham displayed a fighting performance and became the first team this season to snatch away points from Manchester City.

Man City started the match in the same attacking fashion as they have been doing in the Premier League this season. They were rewarded for their efforts in the 18th minute when Sergio Aguero combined well with David Silva and slotted home the Spaniard pass with ease. The first half was totally dominated by Man City and they could have scored many goals but were unable to take their chances. 11 seconds into the second half and Man City scored again. This time Aguero rifled a shot past the Fulham keeper from an Edin Dzeko knock down.

Fulham needed inspiration from somewhere to stage a comeback and they got it from their striker Bobby Zamora who found space on the edge of the box and sent a curling shot past the excellent Man City keeper Joe Hart. The goal gave Fulham hope and their fight back was complete when Danny Murphy’s deflected shot find its way into the bottom corner.

The draw meant that Manchester City lost their 100% winning record this season. They are now 2 points behind Manchester United in the League table. Fulham are yet to win this season but this performance would give much needed morale boost to the team.

Manchester City were terrific in their win against Wigan last week with Aguero scoring a fabulous hat-trick. They will like to continue their free scoring attitude in the game against Fulham. Fulham drew their game against Blackburn and were unlucky not to get more from that game. Fulham have a daunting task ahead of them this Sunday when they meet an inform Man City side that has been crushing teams up till now.

Fulham have been very hard to beat at Craven Cottage over the years but the kind of form that Manchester City has been showing it is very hard to bet against them. All of the Man City players are in top notch form and their strikers are banging in the gaols for fun. Fulham have to be very lucky if they want to avoid defeat. Manchester City were held to a draw at Napoli in their first ever Champions League game. They would want a win from this game to continue the pressure on their neighbours Manchester United.

Both managers have no injury worries for the game and have all their players fit for this game. Both teams are coming in this game at the back of European commitments and the fitness of the players will be tested in this game.

Man City manager Roberto Mancini would want his boys to display another ruthless performance to silence the critics who have been criticizing the club’s high spending in the transfer market.

Manchester City vs. Wigan Athletic Review |EPL| Sat, 10 Sep, 2011

Final Score:  Man City 3-0 Wigan

Goal scorers:  Sergio Aguero (13, 63, 69 minutes)

Bookings:

Arsenal: None

Udinese: None

Man of the Match: Sergio Aguero

Manchester City put in a class performance to trounce a Wigan side that was lacking self belief. Sergio Aguero demonstrated why he is a very lethal striker and his partnership with David Silva became more strong as the two of them terrorised the Wigan defence at every opportunity that they had.

Manchester City dominated the game from the beginning. The passing and movement of the players showed that they were brimming with confidence after demolishing Tottenham in their last fixture. Aguero opened the scoring after Silva had his shot blocked by the Wigan keeper. The Argentine forward scored two more goals in the second half to complete his hat-trick. Wigan merely defended but failed to stop Manchester City from breaching their defences thrice.

Manchester City are now placed second in the League table after Manchester United won their game too. The brilliant form of the Manchester City forwards is a very good sign and manager Roberto Mancini would like them to carry their form in their upcoming encounters in the Premiere League and in the Champions League.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was expecting a win from this fixture but was disappointed with his team’s capitulation at the hands of Aguero but was adamant that his team would bounce back from this defeat.

Manchester City vs. Wigan Athletic Preview |EPL| Sat, 10 Sep, 2011

Manchester City are having an excellent start tot the season and would love to build on their demolition of Tottenham at White Hart Lane with a home victory against Wigan. Wigan also enjoyed a win in their last fixture and would like to continue their good form.

Manchester City have again spend heavily this summer and their acquisitions are coming good too. They absolutely murdered Tottenham in their last outing and are only behind Manchester United in the League Table only because of a lesser goal difference. Wigan were impressive against QPR but beating Manchester City in the form that they are in is very difficult to foresee.

Both managers have no injury concerns and can choose from a fully fit squad. Manchester City signed Owen Hargreaves on the last day of the transfer window but he is most likely to sit this match out.

Enjoying an excellent start at City

Manchester City would want to keep pressure on Manchester United and considering that it is a home game would like to score as many goals as they can to bolster their goal difference. On paper there is a massive quality difference in between Manchester City and Wigan and is most likely to be a stroll in the park for the Citizens but Wigan is going to try and scrape a draw.

Bolton welcome big spending Manchester City at the Reebok on Sunday. Both teams started with 4-0 wins as Bolton thrashed QPR at Loftus Road while Manchester City demolised the Swans at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero is likely to start

Bolton surprised a few with the number of goals they scored as they clearly lack a strong striker. City fans on the other hand were left spell-bounded by new signing Kun Aguero who scored two goals after coming on against Swansea.

Bolton are missing key players Lee Chun Yong, Holden and Mears while City don’t have any such injury concerns. Want-away striker Carlos Tevez is also expected to start along with Kun Aguero.

Manchester City would like to put early pressure on Manchester United who play Tottenham on Monday by securing three points at the Reebok while Bolton would look to build on a strong start.

Manchester City vs. Swansea City Preview |EPL| Monday, 15 Aug, 2011

August 12, 2011 by · Comments Off

Manchester City are all set to welcome new comers Swansea City at the City of Manchester stadium. Manchester City are scheduled to play on Monday two days after the Premier League season kicks off. Manchester City are expected to mount a serious title challenge this season after finishing third last season. Swansea’s main objective would be to stay in the PL after they became the first Welsh club to get promoted to the Premier League

Kun AgueroManchester City have once again signed big stars. Kun Aguero from Athletico Madrid and Gael Clichy from Arsenal are going to add to City’s already highly talented squad. Swansea on the other hand do not have access to the oils of Arabia but have yet spent the most when compared with other promoted clubs.  Routeldge, Caulker, Moreira, Vorm and Leroy Lita have been signed since the club gained promotion last season.

Sergio Aguero and Clichy might start and get their first caps for the Citizens. However, Tevez will not feature in the match as the player’s future is in serious doubt. There are no major injury concerns for City. Swansea will look to also give debuts to Vorm, Caulker, Routledge, Lita and Danny Graham. Swansea’s captain Monk would though miss the game with injury.

Manchester City should look to dominate games against teams like Swansea if they are to put serious pressure on Manchester United. Swansea would do best to avoid a thumping in their very first game in the PL.

Manchester City 2011/12 Preview- Is it Time?

August 10, 2011 by · Comments Off

The dramatic takeover of the Sheikhs left City with a lot of money 2 and a half seasons ago. City has built a team having a great combination of skilled foreign players with some experienced PL players. Has City struck the right combination to win the title this season or even if they have, have their players got a winning mentality?

Star Man: David Silva

Manchester City's chief architect

Silva had a great season for Manchester City playing a pivotal role in creating the bulk of the chances.  He contributed 9 assists last season and with Tevez set to depart in December, David Silva can seriously make a mark this season.

One to Watch: Edin Dzeko

Edin Dzeko had a horrible start to his Manchester City career as he looked completely out of sorts. However, 6 months of PL experience on his back, Dzeko can seriously shine this season.

Manager: Roberto Mancini

Roberto Mancini needs to realize that the attacking potential in his team is so great that he needs to play attacking football. He stuffed three defensive midfielders in his line-up for every difficult fixture which was the basic reason why City couldn’t really blossom in the tough games.

Ins:

Gael Clichy (Undisclosed from Arsenal-Left Back)

Kun Aguero (£38,000,000 from Athletico Madrid- Striker)

Stefan Savic (Undisclosed from FK Partizan- Center Back)

OUTs:

Jo (Undisclosed to Internacional)

Shay Given (Undisclosed to Aston Villa)

Jerome Boateng ((£11,000,000 to Bayern Munich)

Michael Johnson (On Loan to Leicester City)

Patrick Viera (Retired)

Best Signing:

Kun Aguero is certainly a class act. With Tevez’s return to Corinthians imminent, Aguero can certainly replace Tevez as the central striker at City.

Likely Top Scorer:

Tevez was the top scorer for City last season with 20 goals. However, with him trying to force a move away from City, Aguero may probably be on the end of many chances this season.

Possible Best XI:

Joe Hart, Clichy, Kolo Toure, Kompany, Micah Richards, Yaya Toure, Nigel De Jong, David Silva, Mario Balotelli, Kun Aguero, Edin Dzeko

Predicted Finish: 2nd

Mancini Starts Winning

December 27, 2009 by · Comments Off

Roberto Mancini makes his first winning victory in charge of Manchester City as they beat Stoke City 2-0 in Eastlands in their Premier League clash.  Mancini the Former Inter Milan coach, who set his goal on a top-four finish after taking the position from Mark Hughes, saw Martin Petrov put his team ahead in the 28th minute. The Bulgarian brought the ball home at the far post after a miss hit by Robinho from a Carlos Tevez’s low cross into his path.

Tevez managed to delay in first-half time when he got his toe to Gareth Barry’s header while lifting the ball over Thomas Sorensen. Previously, Chelsea fielded in Florent Malouda late on as Birmingham made it 10 games unbeaten with a scoreless draw at St Andrew’s.  The leaders found Joe Hart Blues keeper in great form, making a one point stop from Frank Lampard was especially impressive.  It ended the match with only 10 men after Malouda got a second booking for a late tackle.
