Can Euro 2008 be the tournament for Spain to silence their critics?……

June 1, 2008

After a scintillating first half of football against Peru last evening and grabbing a late winner to come away with a 2-1 victory, Spain looks set to take on the world in this summer’s European Championships.

With their midfield players in Xavi, Fabregas, David Villa and Andres Iniesta all at the peak of their game ahead of the tournament, the Spanish team coached by Luis Aragones looks like going all the way. A good all round team performance was enough to give the Spanish team victory over their South American counter parts.

But it was some …“shambolic defending”…. almost to be expected from Luis Aragones’ men that gave the visitors an equalizer and it is this terrible defending that has denied them glory for so long, but can Spain silence their critics and live up to the expectations of the world? Only they can decide, as we look ahead to their opening game on June 10 against Russia.
