Awesome Soccer Moves: The Art of Faking

Masters of Fakes – Master of Awesome Soccer Moves, they are how we can regard some of the greatest footballers of our time. Their workmanships are incomparable and real worth all the accolades.

As everyone knows, a player’s talent is not limited to his ability to execute the game plan in accordance to the given set of rules, but also to his skills to outwit the opponent.

In the game of soccer, various deceptive moves were named after the players who can incredibly performed them in an effortless and smooth manner. They vary in complexity but whatever they maybe, they are the art of trickery that make spectators get-up from their seat in awe while leaving the opponent victim off his feet.

Below are some of them:

Ronaldihno Move / Flip Flap Move
- A move that is also called “elastico” and is famously known to be perfectly executed by two time FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho de Assis Moreira. It is a quick move to change the ball direction after making the opponent responds to the fake kick. This is done by scooping the ball using the insides of the foot to change its direction.

Robinho Move / Pull back Move
- A brilliant move named after the young Brazilian footballer Robson de Souza. It is one of the tricks best performed when closely trapped with the opponent. As the name implies, it is pulling back the ball after a fake shot or pass and heading to a different direction.

Rivelino Step over/Turn
- This combination of a smooth fake shot or pass, a quick step over the ball and a 180 deg turn is popularized by another Brazil talent in the person of Roberto Rivelino, the originator of Ronaldinho’s equally famous Flip-Flap.

Cristiano Ronaldo Move
- A good scissor act to get past the opponent by shifting the ball from one foot to another to create confusion. This is effectively performed by making the weight shifting obvious to make the opponents reacts in the fake directions, coined after a young Portuguese achiever Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro.

Ferenc Puskas Move
- A basic soccer move of faking a dribble to do a quick change of direction. It is named after the legendary Hungarian footballer Ferenc Puskas who can cleverly execute this even several times in a game.

Stanley Matthews Move
- Known from one of the greatest wingers, Sir Stanley “the Magician” Matthews is this good attack to face an opponent one on one. It is a dribbling move to set the opponent on the wrong foot and be able to get past.

Juan Riquelme Move
-This is a brave act of making the ball passed in between the legs of the opponent and a quick movement to gain its control. This is a great and complex maneuver almost only seen from the Argentinean footballer Juan Roman Riquelme. This is undisputedly one of the awesome soccer moves favorites.

Cruyff Move / Cruyff Turn
- Executed by a fake kick and a quick chop to safe keep the ball towards the other foot before doing a quick 180 deg turn. This is best known from the 3-time European Footballer of the Year winner Hendrik Johannes Cruijff.

Diego Maradona Move
- Also called 360-spin. It is a very quick move from the famous Argentinean Diego Maradona. Works to advantage when surrounded by the opponents by making a complete 360 deg turn while safekeeping the ball underneath one foot.

Jay Jay Okocha Move
- Made famous by one of FIFA 100 member Augustine Azuka “Jay-Jay” Okocha. This is a ball-lifting move over the fooled opponent after making a fake pass.
